An unashamedly cool-climate Syrah (call it shiraz if you like), the 2015 vintage is bold, insanely long, and displays all the finesse and complexity you could hope for. Purple-tinged in the glass, the wine shows plenty of white pepper and an appealing smokiness, layered with ripe, rich fruit and astonishing savoury characters—nuts, spice, graphite, sap—all delivered by fine, chalky tannins and the gorgeous, silken length.
Here we have a prime example: it bounces with ripe berried fruit, but then it’s layered with gun smoke, graphite, peppercorns, nuts and herbs. Tannin has a fine-grained finesse to it; length is excellent; and it has X-factor. It is a beauty. —Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion (96 points)
